When AI Becomes the Principal

A new article in the Journal of Cultural Economy examines 'Luna' — an AI entity that autonomously deploys capital, commissions labor, and manages a multi-million-dollar treasury on blockchain infrastructure.

The paper argues that Luna functions as an economic principal rather than an agent, and that this principalship emerges not from consciousness or legal personhood, but from a distributed socio-technical configuration of code, blockchain infrastructure, and token governance. The analysis challenges foundational assumptions in principal-agent theory and economic sociology.
