Blockchain Through a Human Sciences Lens: ZIBR in Cogito Magazine

What does blockchain mean for law, society, trust, and knowledge? ZIBR researchers answer in the latest issue of Cogito, the University of Lucerne's knowledge magazine.

The June 2026 issue of Cogito (No. 16) puts blockchain in the spotlight, with ZIBR playing a central role.

Prof. Dr. Alexander H. Trechsel and Prof. Dr. Bernhard Rütsche make the case for a human sciences approach to one of today's most debated technologies. Their colleagues explore what blockchain means for philosophy and sociology, for energy law, private law, and public law, and for the way societies store and verify knowledge.

Also featured: ZIBR's first two international fellows. Prof. Emeritus Dr. Victoria Lemieux (University of British Columbia) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Andrea Leiter (University of Amsterdam) bring perspectives from archival science and international law.
