Dr. Andrea Leiter, based at the University of Amsterdam's Amsterdam Center for International Law, held a Senior Visiting Fellowship at ZIBR from January to June 2026. Her research, developed under her NWO VENI grant on "Recoding Values in the Digital Economy," examines how blockchain protocol design encodes value, risk, and governance and what happens to law once rules are programmed rather than interpreted.
During her fellowship, Andrea Leiter spoke at ten events across Europe, including the ZIBR launch panel in Zug, a keynote at the European DAO Workshop in Winterthur, and sessions at the Web3 Summit and Neocypherpunk Summit in Berlin. She also helped shape ZIBR's institutional foundations, co-drafting the Institute's Visiting Fellow Rules and its Alumni Network framework.
The fellowship period produced a forthcoming article in Transnational Legal Theory, a contribution to the Oxford Handbook of Global Corporations and International Law, and a new grant - awarded by the University of Amsterdam - on blockchain as infrastructure of datafied warfare.
